Teams Premium vs Audio Conferencing

Teams Premium adds advanced meeting features. Audio Conferencing lets people join a Teams meeting by telephone. Teams Phone serves a different need: a business phone system. Check the features and people you need to cover before adding licences to your Microsoft 365 quote.

Microsoft sources and public UK reference price checked 22 September 2026. The reference price is not a Dead Simple 365 selling price. We confirm your exact licences, eligibility, VAT and full commitment cost by email.

One licence or a whole team. No payment or order when you send a request.

Start with the job you need Teams to do

What you need Licence area to check
Everyday Teams chat and meetings A base Teams entitlement, included in some suites or bought separately
Extra meeting protection, branding or intelligence Teams Premium, alongside the required base licences
A telephone number for joining a meeting Audio Conferencing for the meeting organiser
A business phone system for normal external calls Teams Phone plus an appropriate connection to the telephone network

Microsoft describes these as separate capabilities in its Teams add-on licensing guide.

Microsoft 365 Business Premium and Microsoft Teams Premium are different products. Check whether your Business subscription is the version with Teams or the version without Teams. A no-Teams suite does not provide the base Teams licence. Microsoft's UK Business plan comparison distinguishes the variants.

Who needs Teams Premium?

Identify the feature and the people who need it. Some Premium features apply to the organiser's meeting; others need a licence for each benefiting user. Licensing 18 organisers does not automatically give all 220 colleagues every personal Premium feature.

A Microsoft 365 or Office 365 subscription and a Teams licence are prerequisites. Premium is an add-on, not a replacement for either.

Check current feature coverage: Microsoft moved some former Premium features into Teams Enterprise from 1 April 2026. Older feature lists may lead you to buy an add-on unnecessarily. Match your intended feature against Microsoft's current Teams Premium licensing tables, including organiser, user and administrator requirements. Configuration is separate from buying the licence.

Audio Conferencing: dial-in and dial-out are different

Dial-in means the attendee calls a meeting's telephone number. Dial-out means Teams calls a telephone number to bring someone into the meeting, including a 'call me' request. Neither means an ordinary Teams call using the internet.

Audio Conferencing licences are assigned to the people scheduling or hosting those meetings. Attendees do not each need an Audio Conferencing add-on just to dial in. It also does not require Teams Phone. See Microsoft's Audio Conferencing planning guide.

A toll dial-in number is not a promise of a free call for the attendee: their telephone provider may charge. Toll-free numbers have different funding and availability requirements.

When the free add-on is enough, and when to check UK dial-out

Microsoft advertises Audio Conferencing with dial-out to USA/CAN as a free add-on for eligible Teams users. It includes toll dial-in and a tenant pool of 60 dial-out minutes per assigned user per month to United States and Canadian numbers. See the Microsoft UK Audio Conferencing offer.

The USA/CAN label restricts the included dial-out destinations. It does not mean that every meeting attendee must be in those countries. Check country availability, existing entitlements and assignment before adding or removing a line.

For Teams to call UK telephone numbers, check the appropriate offer. Microsoft's standard Audio Conferencing subscription includes 60 monthly minutes per user to eligible non-premium Zone A numbers; the United Kingdom is in Zone A. Destinations outside the allowance and excess usage may incur separate charges. Microsoft's minute-pool guidance explains destination charging and Communications Credits. A UK business address alone does not establish which allowance applies.

Teams Phone is a separate purchasing decision

If people need to make and receive normal business calls through telephone numbers, assess Teams Phone and telephone-network connectivity together. The network is often called the PSTN. Microsoft's Teams Phone guidance separates the phone-system licence from the service that supplies numbers and external calling.

Microsoft Calling Plans, Operator Connect and Direct Routing are different connectivity routes. Confirm which you already use, the intended users, number transfers and usage charges before ordering. Audio Conferencing does not replace this phone service. A Teams Premium feature such as the Queues app also has its own Teams Phone prerequisite.

UK price reference and what your quote should show

Microsoft's published UK Teams Premium price, checked 22 September 2026, is £7.70 ex VAT / £9.24 inc VAT per user per month, paid yearly. That is £92.40 ex VAT / £110.88 inc VAT per user for the year, using 20% VAT. Source: Microsoft UK Teams Premium pricing.

This is a dated Microsoft direct reference, not our selling price or a monthly cancellable offer. Teams Premium and Audio Conferencing remain price-on-request lines in our builder. We confirm the exact offer, any existing entitlement, total charge and usage terms before you order. No paid Audio Conferencing rate is assumed here.

A practical check for a 220-seat mixed basket

For example, a company could request 220 Business Premium licences, 18 Teams Premium licences and 12 Audio Conferencing licences. Treat these as three product quantities, not 250 different people. The same person can hold a base licence and both add-ons.

Before confirming that basket:

  1. Check the exact Business Premium variant and existing Teams entitlement.
  2. List the features the 18 Premium users need, including any individually licensed features.
  3. Confirm whether the 12 Audio Conferencing users are meeting organisers, and which telephone destinations need dial-out.
  4. Check already assigned conferencing entitlements, the minute allowance and any toll-free or extra usage requirement.
  5. Keep the requested lines until those checks are complete. Do not automatically remove 12 licences, assume they are all chargeable, or call the difference a saving.

A connected licence-count review can help identify assigned products. It does not establish calling behaviour, invoice costs or the correct future quantities. You can request a quote without connecting your tenant.

Request the right mixed licence quote

Build your mixed quote, adding Business plans, Teams Premium and Audio Conferencing as separate lines. Include current product names, quantities, renewal dates, required features and dial-out countries in the notes. If you need Teams Phone too, describe the existing phone service and intended change. Do not include passwords or private call records.

Choose annual commitment paid upfront or monthly commitment paid monthly, subject to availability for the exact product. We do not offer annual commitments paid monthly. Prices still to be confirmed are excluded from known totals, so the builder does not present a complete bill for unpriced add-ons.

Our team checks the request and emails your prices and terms. You can keep your existing tenant and IT provider, with supply details confirmed before acceptance. Licence-only customers are welcome. Configuration, number porting and support are separately scoped if needed; sending the request places no order.

Common questions.

Does Microsoft 365 Business Premium include Teams Premium?

No. They are different products. Check your Business Premium variant for its base Teams entitlement, then check whether the additional Teams Premium features are needed.

Do all meeting attendees need Audio Conferencing licences?

No. Audio Conferencing licensing is for the people scheduling or hosting the meetings. Attendees do not need their own Audio Conferencing add-on just to dial in.

Is the free USA/CAN conferencing add-on enough for UK dial-out?

Its included dial-out allowance covers United States and Canadian numbers. Check a suitable offer for calls from meetings to UK numbers. This is a different question from whether an attendee can dial in using an available UK meeting number.

Can I request only the licences without buying managed IT?

Yes. Build your mixed licence list and receive a confirmed quote by email. A tenant connection, managed service or sales call is not required. Any configuration or support work is agreed separately.
