Moving from a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement to CSP

Organisations leaving a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (EA) usually move their licences to the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) programme when the EA subscriptions expire, not part way through. A CSP partner creates the new subscriptions in your existing tenant, so matching products can carry on without reassigning licences. Check your EA end date, each product and any Azure commitments before you plan the move.

Microsoft sources checked 4 November 2026. Microsoft programme rules change, so we confirm the route for each subscription before you commit. A quote request does not renew, cancel or change any agreement.

For organisations with 10 to 300+ users. No payment or order when you send a request.

Enterprise Agreement and CSP in plain words

A Microsoft Enterprise Agreement is a volume licensing agreement signed for a minimum three-year period. Microsoft says it offers the best value to organisations with 500 or more users or devices, and it allows three annual payments instead of one upfront payment. See Microsoft's Enterprise Agreement overview.

CSP (Cloud Solution Provider) is the programme in which a Microsoft partner sells and bills your subscriptions. Your organisation accepts the Microsoft Customer Agreement, and the partner buys subscriptions on your behalf in your tenant. See how a CSP partner establishes a reseller relationship.

Dead Simple 365 is an indirect reseller in the CSP programme, supplying through Giacom, our Microsoft indirect provider. We offer annual commitment paid upfront or monthly commitment paid monthly, subject to the product.

Why EA renewals deserve a fresh comparison

Microsoft changed Enterprise Agreement pricing for online services from 1 November 2025. All online services in the EA and the Microsoft Products and Services Agreement (MPSA) moved to a single price across Price Levels A to D, aligned with the prices published on Microsoft.com. For an existing agreement, the change applies at the next renewal, or when you buy online services not already on your Customer Price Sheet. On-premises software pricing did not change. See Microsoft's pricing consistency announcement, published 12 August 2025.

If your agreement had a Level B to D price for online services, check how the single price affects your renewal. Compare your renewal price sheet with a CSP quote for the same products, quantities and terms. Keep implementation, support and Azure costs as separate lines so the comparison stays like for like.

Two routes from EA to CSP

Microsoft describes two ways for a CSP partner to take over licence subscriptions from an Enterprise Agreement in the same tenant. Both need your organisation to accept a reseller relationship first.

Route How it works What to know
Renew to CSP (channel transfer) The partner schedules CSP subscriptions to start when each EA subscription expires. The new start date lines up with the EA end date. Renews to the same product first, including some products no longer on sale. Commercial products only. Agreements that expired in the last 90 days or end within six months are shown.
Manual purchase The partner buys generally available CSP products, timed to the EA expiry. Matching the same product avoids reassigning licences to users. A different product needs licence reassignment.

Timing: work back from your EA end date

Microsoft's channel transfer renews EA subscriptions into CSP only when they expire, not part way through a term. An agreement in its extended term can also renew to CSP; Microsoft advises aligning the move with your EA opt-out date.

  1. Find your EA end date and any extended term or opt-out date.
  2. List each subscription with its product, Teams variant and quantity, and note anything no longer on sale.
  3. Decide the quantities you want for the new term. Reductions are simplest at this point.
  4. An administrator accepts our reseller relationship request and the Microsoft Customer Agreement. Microsoft requires at least the Billing Administrator role for this.
  5. We arrange CSP subscriptions to start as the EA subscriptions end.
  6. After the switch, check licence assignments and the first invoice against the quote.

Use the renewal planner to set reminders for these dates. A reminder does not change or cancel any subscription.

Upgrading products at the same time

Microsoft's channel transfer moves each subscription to the same product in CSP. To upgrade, for example from Microsoft 365 E3 to E5 for some users, the subscription renews into CSP first and is then upgraded as a separate step. See the renewals and upgrades section of Microsoft's transition guide.

Plan any change of mix before the EA ends. Our guides to Business Premium vs Microsoft 365 E3 and Microsoft 365 E3 vs E5 cover the main choices.

Azure under an Enterprise Agreement

Azure moves separately from licences. Microsoft supports transferring Azure subscriptions from an EA to CSP only through Direct Bill partners with an Azure Solutions Partner designation or Azure Expert MSP status, or through CSP distributors with a Frontier Distributor designation, and only for customers who have accepted the Microsoft Customer Agreement and bought an Azure plan in CSP. An active Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC) prevents a transfer until it ends. Marketplace software as a service (SaaS) subscriptions do not move with the Azure subscription.

Tell us your current Azure subscriptions, typical monthly spend and any reservations or savings plans, and we confirm what is possible before anything moves.

After the switch: NCE terms

Subscriptions created when an EA renews into CSP follow Microsoft's New Commerce Experience (NCE) rules, like any new CSP subscription.

  • Seven calendar days to change your mind. Within seven calendar days of a term starting or renewing, a subscription can be cancelled for a prorated refund or its licence count reduced.
  • Add licences at any time. Extra licences end on the same date as the subscription.
  • Reductions after that wait for renewal. Once the seven days have passed, a lower quantity or a cancellation takes effect at the end of the term.

See Microsoft's new commerce cancellation policy. Our annual vs monthly billing guide compares the full cost of each commitment.

What to send us for an EA to CSP quote

  • Your EA end date and any extended term or opt-out date.
  • The products, Teams variants and quantities on your current price sheet, with current prices if you can share them.
  • The quantities you expect to need for the next term.
  • Azure subscriptions, typical monthly spend, reservations, savings plans and any consumption commitment.
  • Who in your organisation will accept the reseller relationship and approve the quote.

Request an EA to CSP review. We reply with a written quote by email. Do not send passwords or sign-in codes. Sending a request takes no payment and changes nothing in your tenant.

Common questions.

Can we move from an Enterprise Agreement to CSP part way through the term?

Microsoft's channel transfer renews EA subscriptions into CSP only when they expire, not part way through a term. Plan the CSP start date to match your EA end date, and check your own agreement for any other terms.

Do we keep our tenant when we move from an EA to CSP?

Yes. Microsoft's process moves subscriptions to CSP for the same, existing tenant. Your users, mail and files stay where they are. Matching the same product avoids reassigning licences; a different product needs reassignment.

Is CSP cheaper than an Enterprise Agreement?

It depends on your products, quantities and price level. Since 1 November 2025, EA online services use a single price across Levels A to D at renewal. Compare your renewal price sheet with a CSP quote for the same products and terms.

Is CSP suitable for organisations under 500 users?

Microsoft positions the Enterprise Agreement as best value for organisations with 500 or more users or devices. CSP suits smaller organisations too. Microsoft 365 Business plans are limited to 300 users, so larger estates use enterprise plans such as E3 and E5.

Can our Azure subscriptions move from the EA to CSP?

Sometimes. Microsoft supports EA to CSP Azure transfers only through certain partner types, for customers with an Azure plan in CSP, and not while a consumption commitment is active. We confirm the route for your subscriptions before anything moves.

Who needs to accept the reseller relationship?

An administrator in your organisation with at least the Billing Administrator role accepts it in the Microsoft 365 admin center, together with the Microsoft Customer Agreement. A reseller relationship assigns no admin roles to the partner.

Your licences. Your next step.

Bring your licence list and renewal dates and we confirm prices and terms by email. Built for organisations with 10 to 300+ users. A managed IT contract is not required.

Sending a request takes no payment and places no order.
